Service Description

In this workshop, Stephanie Schirm will take students outside of the traditional portraiture box to discover a colourful, expressive, and efficient way to create a different kind of portrait. Using an array of materials from paint to drawing tools, from patterns to line, while learning to successfully work from photographs and/or a Mirror! No previous portrait drawing or painting is required. MATERIAL LIST Mixed Media Sketch book 9x12 Wooden Canvas – 16x20 Acrylic (Oil painters are also welcome – just the process will be a little different) Titanium white Yellow ochre Cadmium red medium Paynes Grey (or Ivory Black & Cobalt blue) Primary Yellow (AND any other colours you have or desire) Brushes Bristle or Synthetic brushes: #4 filbert, #8 flat, #10 flat, #12 flat Large 1.5 – 2” brush (dollar store will do) Drawing Tools Conte or charcoal sticks – soft – medium (And any other drawing tools you would like to use) Gel Medium – small container (oil painters need this as well) Clear gesso- smallest container (oil painters need this as well) Assorted papers from decorative to tissue papers to napkins (patterned) Scissors Water containers Rags, paper towels ARTISTS BIOGRAPHY Stephanie Schirm — Mixed Media Figurative Artist & Art Instructor • Member of Society of Canadian Artist, and Portrait Society of Canada, and Ontario Society of Artists • European trained, began her career as a Fashion designer, and fashion illustrator in the 80’s • In the 90’s became Graduate of Communication and Design at OCAD in Toronto. Only then to enter the Liturgical world of Design, where she established Labyrinth Studios Inc., designing and manufacturing sanctuary décor for Churches across Canada and the US. • Her passion for designing and painting lead to sharing her knowledge in the arts through workshops, with the Continuing Education Board in Wellington County, Mohawk College, and in various establishments throughout the GTA area, such as Visual Arts Mississauga, Credit Valley Artisan, Clarkson Society, Haliburton School of the Arts to name a few. • Experience working on Juror panels, mainly for the Public Art Sector in Halton and Peel regions. • Stephanie’s creations can be found in private collections throughout Canada, US and Europe. • Most recently Stephanie is the recipient of the MARTY 2023 Award for Visual Arts in the traditional form, and the Civic Award of Recognition for the Visual Arts from Bonnie Crombie’s Mississauga Mayor’s office.

Cancellation Policy

A registrant may withdraw from a course 7 days or more before it begins and receive a refund minus a 20% administration charge. There are no refunds for withdrawals within 7 days of a course commencing. If a course is cancelled by Studio 201 before it begins, fees will be refunded in full. If a course session is cancelled once the course has begun and cannot be rescheduled, a pro-rated refund will be provided. Any participant who is unable to attend a rescheduled session will receive a pro-rated refund for that session.
