W2603A: Colour and Brushwork: Your Essentials to Successful Acrylic Painting with Birgitta Macleod

Colour mixing and brushwork are essential building blocks of acrylic painting.  If you are new to painting or simply want some more understanding, this is a great workshop for gaining confidence.  Dive into colour theory and learn how different brushes and techniques can save time and frustration.  Acrylics are recommended for this workshop, however you can extend your knowledge of colour theory to all painting media.

Date: Friday March 27, 2026 – 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm

Course Fee for non-members: $65.00

Materials List:

  • bring the acrylics you are currently using. At the very least, you will need
the primaries (red, blue, yellow) and white. Ideally, you will have 2
different pigments each for yellow, blue and red.  I will bring extra paints.
  • a variety of brushes including: filbert, flat, bright and round.  Medium sized
brushes are best for these exercises.
  • Also recommended: an old bristle-y brush; a soft blending brush.  I will
    bring extra brushes.
  • a painting surface for the exercises, such as canvas paper, canvas pad,
canvas board, mixed media paper. You will need approx. half a dozen
    sheets.
  • palette or palette paper for mixing paints.  Do not bring a plastic palette
with small wells (these are suited to watercolours and not acrylics)
  • a sketchbook or notebook for taking notes
    rags or towels
  • water container
