Kat Honey is an award-winning graduate of OCAD. Her work in collage, art signage and painting is informed by her graphic design background.

Recent exhibitions: In Situ Multi Arts Festival, Red Head Gallery, Gladstone House’s Come Up to My Room, The Artist Project 2023-25, Fashion Art Toronto F/W 2023, 1 Adelaide St. E., Canada Life Campus and 4 King St. W., Toronto, Quest Art, Midland, 2024, and Station Gallery, Whitby, 2025. One of her collages was displayed on the large screen at 2 Bloor St. E. for a week in June.

In 2021, Kat designed a permanent neon installation (fabricated by FUSE Neon) for Gladstone House, which was also featured on a tote bag and a limited edition beer can by Henderson Brewing.

In 2022, she designed and illustrated Bright Fish (with collage), a collection of poetry by the late
Lavell Ferris Baldock, published by Barlow Books.

In 2023, Postmark Hotel (Newmarket) chose 3 of her works for a suite; and in 2024 she was commissioned for prints of her work for all suites and corridors of the newly-renovated Union Hotel, Toronto. 7 of her prints will soon grace Toronto’s Sloane luxury rental condominium.

As an instructor, Kat leads courses and workshops online and in-person, as well as lecturing and jurying exhibitions. She is the host of the popular free Virtual Collage Jam on YouTube - featured in Kolag Magazine issue #34.

When not instructing or in the studio, Kat can often be found in her gym or out riding one of her beloved bicycles…

Artist Statement
My practice spans collage, art signage and painting. A previous graphic design career strongly informs everything I do: impact and nuance, text and typography, structure and serendipity.

My recent collage work remixes contemporary fashion imagery to investigate notions of identity, beauty, and evolving social norms.

Our societies’ relationship with fashion and beauty presents a thorny dichotomy: on the one hand intoxicating excitement, attitude and allure – and on the other the fears and insecurities fuelled by unattainable standards. As a new and unsteady trans woman, I feel both sides keenly – and simultaneously.

In transforming images of feminine “perfection” into something more raw, layered and nuanced, I strive to create a more inclusive kind of fashion imagery – one that foregrounds expressive beauty and hopefully feels less alienating – whilst preserving fashion’s blast of visual exhilaration. Keep the passion, ditch the baggage.

My collages are created by hand at magazine scale, then digitally optimized and greatly enlarged, magnifying the qualities of printing, paper textures, cuts and tears – lending scale and impact to an otherwise modestly sized practice.

As an additional benefit, while the collages often use materials that will degrade over time, the limited edition prints are printed with archival inks on archival lustre paper.
