C2601C: Expanding Your Horizons: Techniques Using Oil Paint

Skill Level: Intermediate or Advanced (Not for beginners)

Unlock your ‘inner Artist’ by experimenting with different techniques using the versatile medium of oil paint. Landscapes, still life and florals will be explored. 
Students will use their own reference photos. The instructor will demonstrate techniques using oil paint to guide you in your process and allow you to travel further on your artistic journey. Critiques of class work, for the purpose of learning, will take place throughout the course.

  • Assortment of oil paints that could include:
    • Ultramarine Blue
    • Cerulean Blue
    • Cadmium Red
    • Alizarin Crimson
    • Cadmium Yellow
    • Magenta
    • Sap Green
    • Yellow Ochre
    • Burnt Sienna
    • Titanium White
    • Any other favourite colours
  • Small Gessoed Canvases of various sizes — 9”x12”, 11”x14” up to 16”x20”
  • Canvas Paper
  • Various paint brushes of all sizes and shapes, palette knife
  • Paper towel
  • Medium — Linseed Oil, Poppy Seed Oil, or student choice
  • Several reference photos (printed)
  • Notebook/Sketchbook
