Service Description

While Lucy Manley is unavailable, her students have elected to continue meeting and painting as a WWLD ("what would Lucy do") self-directed group. We hope that Lucy will be back soon, but meanwhile "We carry on!" Our convenor for now will be Jewell Allington. WWLD — Lucy Manley paints vibrant Ontario landscapes that reveal the beauty that surrounds us. Starting with a black canvas, she applies rich oil paints with bold strokes. Oil and acrylic painters welcome. Please note this is not a beginner class. MATERIAL LIST PAINT: BLUE - Ultramarine, Cerulean RED - Alizarin Crimson, Cadmium Red Light, Cadmium Orange YELLOW - Lemon Yellow, Cadmium Yellow Medium, Yellow Ochre, Raw Sienna WHITE - Titanium white (big tube) OTHERS - Burnt Sienna, Georgian Yellow-Green and Blue-Grey (This is the minimum but you can include your favourite colours also.) BLACK ACRYLIC (MARS) or BLACK GESSO TO APPLY TO CANVAS before class SUPPLIES: Odourless Mineral Spirits to clean brushes. Brush cleaning container, cloth rags (T-shirt material is best), paper towels, plastic table cover. BRUSHES: Long Flat Bristle brushes in various sizes from small, medium and large (e.g. #3, #6, #8, #10, and more). Brush sizes depend on the size of canvas you are using. Again bring your own favourite brushes. A palette knife to clean palette as well as to paint with. CANVAS: Stretched canvas, canvas board or prepared masonite or wood panels are suitable. Bring a size such as square, rectangle, or long. I will be using stretched canvas. Size depends on how quickly you work; if you are fast, a larger size is best and vice versa. I will demo on a larger canvas. EASEL: Easels, tables and chairs will be available. MISCELLANEOUS: Sketch book, pencil or felt pen CLASS: Reference photos will be supplied. Demonstrations and critiques will be on going as the paintings are worked on.
